Divided into Upper and Lower Mount Pleasant with the Isle of Palms Connector as its mid-point, residents enjoy a wide variety of neighborhoods with new construction, mid-century gems, townhomes, condos and historic homes to choose from.  Known for its upscale feel and well-manicured neighborhoods, Mount Pleasant offers plenty of housing options and activities to suit all lifestyles.  Lower Mount Pleasant is known for smaller subdivisions and more established neighborhoods, particularly the distinctive Old Village.  With streets lined with live oaks, trendy shops and historic homes, this neighborhood is a great example of the harmony between past and present that can be found all throughout Mount Pleasant.  Upper Mount Pleasant is a more recently developed area offering large-scale, master-planned subdivisions with full amenities, recreational areas and greenspace.

 

In Mount Pleasant, it’s not unlikely that you will find a docked naval ship at the end of the street or a historic site in your back yard!  Honoring the past while looking to the future, historic and cultural sites can be found just down the road from nearly every neighborhood. Patriot’s Point Naval Museum includes the SS Yorktown, a decommissioned Naval vessel that now stands as a museum ship- a great place to take visiting friends and family. Boone Hall Plantation educates on Gullah-Geechee heritage, hosts house tours year-round and is the setting for numerous community events throughout the year.  The 28-acre Charles Pinckney Historic site flanks a centrally located subdivision, and provides a look at coastal plantation life in the early 1800s complete with historic home, exhibits and gardens.

 

Year-round opportunities to enjoy the outdoors abound in Mount Pleasant.  From recreational fields to parks to greenspace, there is no shortage of community facilities in which to enjoy time with family, friends and neighbors.  Residents enjoy paradise in their own back yards with easy access to over a half dozen beaches (Isle of Palms being the closest).  Most residents can reach the beach within a 5-20 minute drive, or bike over the IOP Connector to the beach for extra exercise.  Runners and cyclists enjoy stunning water views from the pedestrian paths of both the Isle of Palms Connector and the Ravenel Bridge.  Flanked by the Wando River, Charleston Harbor and the Intracoastal Waterway, Mount Pleasant also affords endless access points for boaters, kayakers and fishing enthusiasts to explore the local waterways.  Palmetto Island Country Park offers paved trails, picnic areas and access for fishing, crabbing & kayaking, while Memorial Waterfront Park features a playground, 1,250 foot pier with café and bench swings and scenic Charleston Harbor Views.  Shem Creek Park offers a winding boardwalk stroll along tranquil creek and wetland views and the shrimp boats and waterfront restaurants of Shem Creek.

 

When it comes to shopping, dining and entertainment options, Mount Pleasant residents are spoiled for choice.  In addition to locally owned boutiques and big box stores, you’ll find Towne Center with 65 national and regional chains.  Several grocery store chains including Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods have locations in Mount Pleasant and the seasonal Farmers Market is a great place to meet local suppliers of fresh groceries and produce.  Foodies love this town for its endless dining options for innovative international cuisine and Lowcountry favorites.  Mount Pleasant boasts hundreds of restaurants and cafes for fine dining or indulging in local favorites and is also home to the Lowcountry Oyster Festival, offering the region’s best oysters and booths where area restaurants offer their menu’s favorite dishes.
